OOTD: Embroidered Midi Dress

2017-06-16 12.51.49 1

I’m so excited to share this look with you all today! In particular, I’m excited to share the star of the OOTD this embroidered midi-dress, it’s one of my absolute favorite go-to dresses. I can seriously live in it, as it works for so many occasions; I can pair it with strappy heels for a dressier event, or throw on some gladiator sandals for the perfect causal brunch look. Not to mention it’s an exact dupe for one of my favorite, Free people dresses (I might even like the quality of this one a little more) and at only $36.99 vs $168.00 I really couldn’t say no.

One of my my favorite colors to pair with black during the summer is camel. I love the contrast and warmth it brings to a black outfit, and the warm tone makes black summer appropriate. So I knew that my Steve Madden espadrilles, would be the perfect shoe for this look. Not only did they match perfectly with my, Jessica Simpson purse, but the wedge gave me some much needed height, to successfully pull off a midi dress. The finishing touch was to throw on my new hat obsession, this straw hat I indefinitely borrowed from my mom ( I mean does anything say summer like a straw hat)?

2017-06-15 06.54.37 3For jewelry I kept it super simple and minimal, layering my favorite Old Navy dangle necklace and a simple dainty gold chain, mom gifted me from her recent trip to Mexico. For earrings I kept with the dangle theme, throwing on these disc style gold earrings, that catch the light perfectly. On my hands, I went with my two favorite Madewell bracelets, my engagement ring (of course) and a bar Madewell ring as well. I wanted to keep everything simple, to not take away from the beautiful white embroidered flowers.

This look, is something I will have on repeat so expect to see it in future posts hopefully you guys don’t get tired of it.

As always thank you for stopping by.

Share your favorite fashion, or beauty dupes in the comments below, I’d love to check them out.

DIY: Let’s make summer Clutches out of Placemats.

With Summer right around the corner, I’ve been looking for ways to add fresh new accessories to my summer style. And what better way to complete an outfit, then by adding a fun bag! So, instead of going out and spending $$$ on three new bags ( I spent under $10.00 for each one) I decided to revisit an old DIY I did a few years back, in which I turn placemats into clutches. Seriously you guys, this is such an easy DIY and the outcome looks boutique quality (even better there is no sewing!). With so many cute placemats out there, you have to give this DIY a try, I’ll be sharing three different styles in the tutorial (placemats are all from  Target)!

*Pro tip: When choosing out a placemat be sure it’s double lined meaning there is two pieces of fabric already sewn together; this allows you to skip adding a lining to the inside of the clutch ( Can you guys tell I like to do the least amount of work, lol) .

The Tribal Clutch

20170607041111_IMG_2524-01

For this DIY you will need:

20170607041437_IMG_2526-01

Step one:

Start by taking a seam ripper (in case an exacto knife lol) and cut all along the bottom and top seam, this will create an opening for the cardstock.

20170607041811_IMG_2529-01

Step two:

Next insert your card stock, making sure it is centered with the bottom and top seems. The cardstock will give the body of the clutch structure, and keep it from sagging once it’s filled with all your goodies.

Now lay your trim on top of the cardstock, at this point you should have a “sandwich” (placemat, cardstock, trim and placemat) add a generous amount of liquid stitch in-between each layer apply pressure to the edge to close everything up.

Take the second piece of card stock and glue it along the opposite seam.

20170607042204_IMG_2530-01

*It should look like this, allow to dry for 5 minutes before moving on to the next step.

20170607042601_IMG_2533-01

Step 3:

The last step is to create the actual pouch area (the size of the pouch will be determined by how far up, you fold the palcemat).

Simply add a generous amount of glue to both sides along the seams, leaving enough space for a flap, hold everything in place with paper clips while its’ drying  (24 hrs).

*Pro tip: I used paper clips rather than pins, because pins tend to get glued making it hard to pull them out.

20170607042344_IMG_2532-01

Your  all done, the end result should look like this.

20170607125117_IMG_2556-01(1)

Styling your clutch:

I love the bohemian vibe this clutch is giving off, I would style it with a pair of light denim cut-offs a simple white tee and my new favorite Steve Madden wedges. Keeping everything simple, and letting the print become the focal point for a relaxed boho outfit.

The Palm Clutch

20170607043807_IMG_2535-01

For this DIY you will need:

20170607044705_IMG_2536-0120170607044749_IMG_2537-01

Step One:

Start by taking in the sides of the placemat, do so until you can slide the bottom through the slits of the handle. Once I lined everything I used several clips to hold everything in place

*Pro tip: Hold off on adding glue, until you have everything set in place.

20170607045942_IMG_2539-01

Step Two:

The final step is to add a generous amount of glue to the pre-existing side seams, stopping an inch from the top. Add glue to the underside of the seam running along the handle as well.

20170607050302_IMG_2540-01

Step Three:

Line up the sides, and run your finger along the glued areas applying plenty of pressure secure everything with butterfly clips allow 24hrs before using. You’re all done!

20170607124816_IMG_2552-01

 Styling Tip:

I’m getting resort vacation vibes from this clutch, I would pair it with white denim skinnies, a white flowy top and an oversized sun hat for fun tropical weekend look.

Fiesta Clutch

20170607031728_IMG_2512-01

For this DIY you will need:

20170607031826_IMG_2514-01

Step one:

Making all the mini tassels is time-consuming so…. I recommend watching an episode or two of you favorite show . For this size purse you will need a total of 14 mini tassels (one bundle of floss makes two tassels, just fold in half twice).

*I’m not showing this step, but will link a previous tutorial here.

20170607032956_IMG_2515-01

Step two:

Thread your needle and sew on one of your handles to the placemat.

20170607033956_IMG_2518-01

Step Three:

Fold the placemat in half, use paper clips to hold everything in place, then line second handle to opposite side.

20170607040419_IMG_2520-02

Step Four:

Pull the paper clips out, and lay placemat on a flat surface.

Arrange the tassels into your desired pattern, using a ruler to help space everything evenly.

Once you are happy with the pattern and placement, lift one tassel at a time and apply a dot of glue to the backside. Allow tassels to dry for 10mins, before moving on to the next step.

20170607043519_IMG_2534-01

Step Five:

Apply a thick layer of glue along the entire placemat, then use several paper clips to hold everything down and prevent it from popping back up. Allow to dry over night and you’re all done.

20170607124148_IMG_2545-01

Styling Tip:

This clutch is so fun, that I would go full rainbow pairing it with this embroidered Zara button up, my favorite denim shorts and my pom-pom gladiator sandals. This is the perfect outfit for a summer backyard party.

70’s summer vibes.

20170604181341_IMG_2369-01This past weekend I was crushing hard on the 70’s, I spent a majority of my weekend grooving out to Fleetwood Mac, and The Mammas and the Pappas while frolicking outside. Luckily for my slight 70’s addiction (or maybe not so slight) I’m pretty stocked on all of your flower child essentials, all perfect for a spring outfit.

20170604180746_IMG_2339-01

20170604182059_IMG_2399-01

To start off this vintage Forever 21 dress, (totally joking about the vintage part) was a recent rediscovery from my closet, I’ve had it for a few years and can’t seem to get enough of it. The fabric is light weight flowy and breathable all musts for a hot California day . It cinches in at the waist creating a very flattering shape the slightly oversized bell sleeves come down at and angle for optimum frolicking action. Is it me or is anyone else getting major dessert flower child vibes from the print?

20170604180934_IMG_2358-01

20170604181214_IMG_2364-01

I kept my accessories minimal opting for an oversized straw hat and wicker vintage clutch a match made in heaven. Of course I live in my Karen Walker Super Dupers  year round they Shapes frames my face perfectly.

20170604181517_IMG_2377-01

These Steve Madden espadrille wedges are a new addition to my closet, I now know why they are the shoe of the summer. I found mine at DSW for only $59.99 and let me tell you I’m running back for all the other shades, they are absolute perfection. The brown suede against the light rope scream summer and the strap make them easy to walk in all day long.

I’m continuing my crafting kick this week, but this time I’m busy making decor for my apartment because WELL… I just love staying busy and changing stuff up around my place. My focus these days has been our restroom, it’s been an area that was lacking color and personality. I decided to combine my love for all things bohemian and all things blush and blue. I DIYed a bar towel rack, and whipped up a small yet colorful painting but it still needed something else I knew I wanted to in cooperate a mirror and a little more color, Que the Boho wall Hangings (I have a restroom “reveal” coming soon hence what these are not shown in their new homes, stay tuned).

They were very simple to make, this is the  type of craft you can do while binge watching Girl Boss or whatever show you are currently hooked on. Now on to the tutorial.

20170516043555_IMG_1803-01.jpeg

For this DIY you will need:

20170516050603_IMG_1808-01.jpeg

Step one:

I started by cutting 42, 6″ strips of Blush yarn, 11, 6″ strips of  Pale Taupe yarn and 1, 20″ strip of Navy yarn, set a side for now.

20170516044033_IMG_1806-01.jpeg

Step two:

I then placed a piece of tape just below the middle of the mirror, I used this as a guide to glue down the yarn.

*Crafters note: I recommend using washi tape, or a tape that is not overly sticky.

20170516044316_IMG_1807-01.jpeg

Step three: (optional)

I wanted to add a boarder to the mirror, to give it more substance, so I place a slightly smaller bowl over the mirror leaving me with the perfect amount to create a border. With a small brush I painted along the edge, this made the mirror really pop  (I’m obsessed with this stuff!).

*crafters note, I once you lift the tape there will be a small gap left go back in with your brush and carefully fill it in.

If the gilding liquid bleeds, take a Q-tip and a small amount of nail polish remover to fix any mistakes.

20170516050738_IMG_1809-02.jpeg

Step Four:

I found the vertical center of my mirror and laid down a generous amount of Mod Podge placing 11 Pale Taupe strips, in the center, and 21 Blush strips on either side. As I added more I made sure to place them closely together and made sure they were straight. Set aside and allow to dry (20 mins to work with, but 24hr to full dry)

*Crafters note: start from the center and work your way out this will ensure everything is symmetrical.

20170516052206_IMG_1810-01.jpeg

Step five:

With the same small bush I painted one of my three dowel caps, leaving the other two untouched. Set aside allow to dry.

*Crafters note: I slid a brush handle through a dowel cap, this allowed me to rotate the cap while I painted it.

20170516053100_IMG_1813-01.jpeg

Step 6:

To hang the “beads” I took my Navy strip and folded it in half, leaving me with 2, 10″ strips. I knotted the bottom portion 3 times and slid the first bead through both strips about 1″ from the bottom. I then made a second knot 2″ above the first one, and slid my second bead, and finally I made my last knot another 2″ above the second one and slid the last bead.

20170516053418_IMG_1814-01.jpeg

Step seven:

To create a tassel, I simply looped the Navy yarn 20 times around the palm of my hand, I then took a 6″ string and tied it through the center of the loop.

20170516053509_IMG_1815-01.jpeg

Step eight:

I then snipped the bottom of the loop, creating several separate strands.

20170516054024_IMG_1817-01.jpeg

Step nine:

To attach the tassel, I simply tied the loose strands through the loop and cut off the access.

20170516054601_IMG_1819-01.jpeg

Step ten:

After the glue was dry enough, I took the mirror and laid it flat separating each of the strands I then taped all the yarn down with a second piece of washi tape. This will keep everything in place.

20170516054726_IMG_1821-01.jpeg

Step eleven:

To achieve a nice uniform round shape I took a bowl slightly larger than the mirror and placed it 5″ below the bottom of the mirror. Holding it firmly I then began to cut along side the bowl.

20170516055320_IMG_1823-01.jpeg

Step Twelve:

The last step is to glue everything down with a generous amount of glue, and allow to dry over night before hanging.

20170516125100_IMG_1837-01-01.jpeg

The end result is so chic, I love these in multiples to make a statement.

Mother’s Day Gift Idea DIY Engraved Bracelets

The challenge of finding Mom the perfect gift, that says “Mom you’re the best, and you mean the world to me” can be well, a challenge. I struggle every year to find a meaningful gift for the most important woman in my life, BUT what do you DIY for Mom as an ADULT? This year I decided give hand engraving a go, and let’s just say the result is beautiful, these bracelets are so lovely and dainty paired with your very own hand writing it’s the perfect personalized gift. I love these!

20170503015124_IMG_1495-01-01.jpeg

For this DIY you will need:

20170511174306_IMG_1715-01

Step One:

For a wrap style bracelet, measure and cut 3, 42″ strands of floss then fold in half. You will be left with 6, 21″ strands. Repeat, you should have two set of 6, 21″ strands.

20170511174412_IMG_1716-01-01.jpeg

Step two:

Once folded in half take a pencil and place it right at the center of your floss make a small tight knot, you should be left with a small loop around the pencil (repeat).

20170511174548_IMG_1718-01-01.jpeg

Step four:

Take a small piece of your stamping tape and place it right over the loop (this stuff is very strong it keeps everything in place, it’s amazing!). Then separate the strands into 3 groups like this.  (repeat)

20170511175143_IMG_1719-01-01.jpeg

Step five:

Start creating a simple three strand braid, down the entire length, make a small knot at the end set a side for now. (repeat)

20170511175738_IMG_1722-01.jpeg

Step six:

Take a pencil and write out a sample of what you would like to engrave. I recommend practicing on a separate bar or disc,  it’s not very hard to use but it does take some getting used to (make sure you have fresh batteries). Then simply Trace over the pencil, I did a set of two, one with my Mom’s zodiac sign the second with her name.

20170511180228_IMG_1724-01-01.jpeg

Step 7:

Lastly take your jump ring and run it through the loop as well as through the bar, using pliers close jump ring, then take your toggle and attach it to the end. Repeat to the other side your are all done!

20170511181321_IMG_1731-01

Here is the finish product, as you can see I made a second style using a charm bracelet and stamping discs. These are perfect, I love how minimal and chic they are.

Weekend Diary 1

20170430172724_IMG_1234-01Like most people I look forward to the weekend all week long, I look can’t wait to putting together a cute outfit, cheek out a new cafe or just spending the day outdoors. my family came to visit and celebrate El Dia Del Nino (kids day) so we decided to pack up picnic and take advantage of the beautiful sunny day.

20170430185249_IMG_1304-01

I have to say I feel really #blessed to have so many beautiful beaches, parks, and hiking trails near me (all perfect for a great Instashot ). We decided to head to one for our favorite spots, Lovers Point a cute little picnic area in Pacific Grove. We love that it has easy access to the beach but also has plenty of grassy areas to lay down a picnic blanket and enjoy the beautiful view.  On sunny days, it’s absolutely mind blowing!

20170430182634_IMG_1295-0120170430180903_IMG_1282-01

We spent a majority of our afternoon playing with the kids on the grass and running around. My nephew and son really enjoyed the sunny weather, we played freebie and enjoyed a delicious lunch with the sound of crashing waves behind us making the day even better.

20170430191503_IMG_1345-01

I knew we would be running around a lot so I needed a very comfortable and flexible outfit.  I opted for my new favorite off the shoulder striped top, paired with rolled up straight leg jeans and my lace-up  nude sandals from Payless Shoes ( check out my Spring shoe essentials)  it made for a light and airy spring outfit. On days that I need to be hands free my go to bag is my Kate Spade backpack it’s classic, and offers enough space that I can pack all of babies needs. Of course these days I try to capture every moment so I never leave the house with-out my camera.

20170430_184026-02

20170429_182210-01

After lunch we went down to Cannery Row, and did a little more walking around and popped into Ghirardelli for a cheeky late afternoon treat. I totally recommend the Presidio Passion Strawberry Sundae, it’s amazing!

It was a fantastic weekend, I’m already counting down the days until the next! I’d love to hear how you all spent your weekend, share it down below.

Styling with chic Terrariums

cool 2

I’ve been thinking of different ways to add life, and style to a dresser that was previously used as a changing table. Since our room doubles as a nursery I’m constantly looking for light airy items that wont overpower an already busy room. I opted for two chic glass terrariums (yes I know they are crazy trendy, but it’s for a reason). They offer a sculptural element to a plain or busy coffee table, bookshelf or in my case dresser and when paired with the right succulent they introduce the perfect amount of color.

small succulent close up one .jpeg

To keep the terrariums feeling chic I filled them with small and large white rocks, they provided a clean fresh canvas. The white tied in previous elements already in the room, like the crib and white bedding creating a uniform look throughout the space. The final touch was accenting the succulent with amethyst and pyrite to add a bohemian modern vibe and inject a touch of color.

large succulent close up .jpeg

My last terrarium I played with scale using a large FlapJack or Paddle succulent in a slightly smaller cube shaped vessel. The smaller scale of the cube allowed the Paddle plant to be the center focus, drawing the eye it’s beautiful pinks and reds. I slipped a book underneath to further anchor it and add height.

Spring and Neutrals

20170315194411_IMG_0043-01Purse -Kate Spade Byrdie ( Crisp Linen), Purse Charm- DSW Chatherine Stein swan pom,  Jewelry Box- Nate Berkus office for Target, Gold Ring- Madewell,  Evil eye ear jackets- Amazon Saridjo,  Pins- Vintage score

With Spring only one day away, I’m looking to introduce a softer more romantic color palette filled with blush and neutral tones. When looking for simple ways to transition my winter wardrobe into a fresh spring one I always start with accessories. It’s an easy way to layer in new pieces when you are not quit ready to say bye to those cozy winter pieces.  This season I ditched my over sized oxblood tote for this small crossbody saddle style purse. With its lovely light neutral shade it’s the perfect everyday no fuss bag it goes with absolutely everything. Plus it’s the perfect size that won’t feel like your being weighed down so you can enjoy gorgeous days ahead. I like to keep my spring wardrobe simple and easy the less time I spend indoors  worrying about what to wear and more time I can enjoy the beauty outside.
